Teleconference Calls and Video Interviews

Jenny Rush hosts these FREE teleconference calls and video chats after having the experience of living with and through Lyme disease.phone

These calls were originally created by Jenny Rush and Lisa Hilton to give people an opportunity to deal with the spiritual/emotional aspect of illness, something that deserves as much attention as the physical side, and is the aspect that gives a person the most power in their healing journey. A different topic is picked for each discussion.

Guest speakers are also scheduled who share their area of expertise, offer hints, techniques and information that people can then use themselves. There is always an opportunity to ask questions during the second half of the calls.

If you are looking for the next scheduled phone call, it will be posted here and on the Lymethriving page on Facebook. If you are on the mailing list, you will receive the Teleconference event reminder by email.

In case you have apprehension about being on the call, the space provided is loving and non-judgmental. We have laughter, sometimes a few tears, but mostly it’s just a relaxed conversation. Calls are recorded and links to the recordings can be found below each call listed on this page.

February 13th, 2017 - Chronic Illness, Stress and Politics

Chronic illness is frequently accompanied by chronic stress. Chronic political stress is now being added to the mix, and we know that stress is a contributing factor to illness. In this teleconference we will be revisit what we can learn about ourselves as a result of the stress, and how we can use it as an opportunity for personal growth. There are many parallels to chronic illness stress and the political stress of our current times. We will investigate this together and use it to our advantage as well. And we will offer some practical advice to deal with the whole messy package.

There will not be any debating over policies or elected officials. We will be focused on the impact and possible solutions for self-empowerment and peaceful abidance in the face of the circumstances.

November 7th, 2016 - Identity Lost to Illness? Rediscover You!

A common experience of chronic illness is the loss of our identity. Everything we had thought ourselves to be, whether it be as a parent, partner, professional etc, vanishes in an experience often referred to as, “I’ve lost my life to an illness.”

This teleconference call will provide insight (at the least) and actual experience into the truth of who you are. It’s an opportunity to realize that who you are is not what you have thought yourself to be, certainly not an illness (even if that’s what it currently feels like) and is more vast and beautiful than you can possibly imagine.

Realizing who you truly are provides an access to peace, regardless of the circumstances of your current illness experience.

Join us for a comfortable and easy conversation and investigation.

September 12th, 2016 - Uncovering Wisdom during Chronic Illness

When we are struggling with chronic illness there is natural seeking for relief, not just physically, but emotionally. With that there is the search for books, articles, teachers and others who can share their wisdom to help bring the relief. Sometimes there is anger when one reads that someone is grateful for the illness experience, and yet, there can be a search for the relief that gratitude brings. The changes we experience during prolonged illness are often painful, but the gratitude isn’t as much for the pain as for what the pain reveals about ourselves. So how do we uncover or ‘gain’ wisdom? What is there to learn about ourselves and how? Where do we look? What if we can’t read books?

This teleconference with Jenny Rush will explore this topic and assist you in revealing your own wisdom. It will not be about having new information to try to remember, but rather, it is about dipping into the well of wisdom you ALREADY are. We will have time for questions and answers so that we can explore your own particular inquiries. This is a relaxed and easy going time together as we BE community.

You CAN be empowered in the face of all circumstances.

March 28th, 2016 - Dealing with Anger

Amongst the many (too many to mention) emotions that are part of the chronic illness roller coaster ride, anger has been singled out for our next teleconference call. All too often we are told to ‘think positive’ and avoid negative feelings, but to live as an emotionally healthy human being it is beneficial to come to terms with the wide range of emotions that are a part of life.

We are going to explore anger, what it feels like when experienced purely, what it feels like when there is a story or narrative attached to it, and how to distinguish the difference. There is a distinct difference between feeling anger and getting stuck in anger, and the impact of being stuck does not support healing.

She has been through this and brings her huge heart and her innovative spirit to the table.

Feb 8th, 2016 - Who Am I?

Chronic illness often strips away our identity, who we thought ourselves to be, sometimes leaving us identifying with one of the only things that seems to be a constant, illness. While this experience is unsettling (understatement), when we investigate the actual experience of who we are we discover that we are not who we think we are. Who we are is so profoundly extraordinary that words will never be able to capture our essence. Realizing the essence of who we are, beneath the illness experience, beneath all the roles we play or have played in life, brings a breathtaking peacefulness that is not only fulfilling but also supports our bodies in the healing process.

You may decide to explore with us in order to assist your physical healing, but I hope you will stay with us because you are interested in discovering the truth of who you, simply because it’s the truth.

Jan 25th, 2016 - Letting Go Past Grievances to Support Healing

This call will address letting go of past grievances to allow ourselves to be present more peacefully, contributing to the environment of ourselves in a way that supports healing.

We eventually get tired of carrying around old grievances. They don’t feel good and we know instinctively that they don’t support healing. The search for ‘how to let go’ will be endless if we look for a letting go strategy. Letting go is a quirky, counter-intuitive process of distinguishing where we are holding on or resisting, and ceasing THAT activity. But what if we feel unforgiving or remain feeling stuck even when we distinguish our resistance? This is what we will deal with in our next teleconference. It’s simpler than you realize and everyone has the ability to let go.

Jan 11th, 2016 - Accessing love & joy while dealing with chronic illness

Do you find that dealing with chronic illness day in and day out leaves your life experience devoid of experiencing love or joy? Do you ever feel that you will only experience peace or contentment when you are finally well? You are not alone, and this does not have to be how it goes for you.

Please join us for a relaxed and uplifting conversation that will address where we get stuck and blocked from allowing our natural expression of peace and joy, and how we can each begin to take steps towards allowing the expression and experience of peace and joy to become a greater part of our lives…yes, even while dealing with chronic illness.

June 13th, 2015 - Peace and tranquility during chronic illness

Chronically ill patients have a physiology that often gets stuck in fight or flight, a perpetual state of stress that can keep the immune system suppressed and prevent a patient from healing. With all the stress factors in chronic illness, from the experience of illness to losing income to parenting while ill (and the list goes on), it seems like the impossible dream to achieve a sustainable state of peace that would support healing.

BUT the good news is that we will be investigating our access to a peace and tranquility THAT DOES NOT COME AND GO the way states of mind come and go. It is available at all times and under all circumstances. Opening to it is the greatest exhale we can experience, and as we exhale, our entire physiology exhales, and we become an ‘environment’ that supports healing on all levels.

Jenny and Jenna will be co-hosting this call, offering guidance and tools to support you.

May 25th, 2015 - Uncovering the most powerful aspect of your treatment protocol

It’s normal to keep our eyes and ears open for the potential magic bullet to add to treatment protocols, that one thing that makes THE difference in getting well. This teleconference will be about uncovering just that, the most overlooked, and without a doubt, most powerful healing agent, YOU.

We will discuss the first 3 steps to healing; distinguishing, accepting and surrendering. We will explore how and why you are the most powerful agent in your arsenal, and what it takes (or doesn’t take) to support your own healing along with your protocols, and how it works.

Can you continue to participate without running yourself further into the ground? So many have done so much over the past months to prepare for Lyme Awareness month, often running on nervous energy.

Jenna Wright and I will be talking about emotional impact of the awareness activities and conversations, and how to continue to be a stand for change without depleting yourself emotionally, and we will also be addressing ways to support your bodies back from the fatigue of running on adrenaline.

Feb 23rd, 2015 - Exploring what types of Lyme awareness and Lyme support groups are the best fit for you

With the multitude of Lyme awareness groups and the even greater multitude of Lyme support groups available to join, it is sometimes confusing and difficult to know just what works best for you. Are you political or not? Do you need more information or less information? Are you inspired by some groups and dragged down by others? Do you want to be involved with protests but often feel to ill? Is there guilt with choosing one over another? If you give your time and voice will it be enough or too much?

Jenny Swart Rush and Jenna Wright will be co-hosting this next teleconference to discuss this sometimes hot topic, and to support you to figure out what works best for you…guilt free and with your best interests at heart.

Feb 2nd, 2015 - Addressing the anger and resignation of chronic illness

Chronic illness, especially an illness difficult to diagnose and treat, is frequently accompanied by the experiences of anger, frustration, despondency and resignation.

There is anger at health care providers, frustration with family and friends, despondency with ongoing physical struggles, and resignation with continued conversations about never being able to be well again (just to name a few). Attempting to get rid of these feelings by forcing ones Self to think positively has us being inauthentic and frustrated at the un-sustainability of these thoughts, and just brings on additional stress. No feelings are invalid, but when we allow them to dictate our experience, we are in victim mode; a contracted energetic state that does not support healing.

An effective way to address these types of feelings is to face them and discover what is at the source of them, and to allow the potential gifts they are to be revealed. Almost always, what is revealed to us is not what we expect. And with each revelation, no matter how small, there is a relaxation and expansion within us…and it supports healing.

Nov 3rd, 2014 - The topic is dealing with the process of returning to normal life after a prolonged illness

After an extended illness there is a process of returning to ‘normal’ life that sometimes can feel overwhelming and a bit confusing.

There are many questions that arise: Should I go back to work full time? Should I go back to work part-time? Will I want to do the things I did before? Have I changed too much? What if I’m not the person I used to be? What if I get sick again? On this call we will discuss what it is like to begin this re-entering process, listen to some experiences others have gone through, and make peace with not knowing exactly how it will unfold. It can be the most surprising and enjoyable journey! Please join our next call if you have concerns or worries about your next step, and also if you would like to share your your own re-entering process.

July 7th, 2014 - Remembering who we are, despite our circumstances

Do you want to experience sustainable peace and happiness but have noticed that when dealing with chronic illness over an extended period of time that everything seems flavored, influenced and impacted by the illness…your thoughts, your feelings, your choices, you ability to experience joy and peace? This is a result of identifying with the illness, thinking of yourself as illness. It’s understandable and pretty normal, but there are other options, like knowing the actual truth of who you are. How great!

We will explore the true nature of who we are. We will look at how we tend to forget ourselves as life moves along, and how to experientially remember who we are.

Nov 11th, 2013 - Lyme Disease & Cognitive Dysfunction

Cognitive dysfunction; healing because of it (spiritually) and healing from it neurologically. Many with chronic Lyme disease struggle with cognitive challenges. It’s been almost 2 yrs since I became well, and much to my surprise have just recently gone through an intense ordeal that supported reconnecting the neurological gaps that had remained. I am excited to share how the reconnecting took place to leave you with hope for your own healing.

While cognitive challenges are a great source of stress and suffering, it is also an opportunity to look beneath it and discover what it can provide on a spiritual level.

The sky is not the limit, and be wary of those who try to convince you otherwise. Fear can be infectious, but it is curable. Here’s to pushing through old boundaries toward new discoveries…VI ET ANIMO” ~Logan McCulloch

Jenna Wright will be leading this interview on our next teleconference. There will be an opportunity to ask questions about his hiking adventures and also what he has learned through his experience with Lyme disease.

CarlNelkeMay 19th, 2014 - Special Guest Speaker Carl Nelke, MA, LCSW, LLC Lyme Literate Psychotherapist offering psychological support for Lyme Disease patients: Experience, Strength & Hope

Carl Nelke, a psychotherapist who has experience with Lyme disease, is joining us to share his knowledge and wisdom in the area of dealing with the psychological aspects of chronic Lyme disease. He will also be answering questions on the call.

A few bullet points of topics that will be addressed:

  • There isn’t necessarily a continuum of emotional, mental, and psychological growth in Lyme healing, it’s not linear. It requires a multifaceted approach to each individual.
  • Some may have historical belief systems that need to be observed and worked with/changed. Getting unstuck! Enabling the process of emotion, creating an emotional flow and release.
  • Re-directing (re-framing) thoughts. Belief in something bigger than the disease. Recognizing the disease talking verses normal reality.
  • More and more studies are showing that there is a bacterial component to mental health issues (the gut/brain connection).
  • Becoming ones own best advocate; trusting the group; looking for absolutes (trust with a bit of skepticism thrown in there). Owning ones power, but not alienating everyone.

About Carl Nelke:
MA in Developmental and Educational Psychology, Columbia University 1993.
LCSW in Clinical Social Work, Columbia University 1995Post graduate training in Addictions, Autoimmune Disorders (HIV/AIDs), Cognitive Behavioral, Gestalt, Object Relational, Psychoanalytic, Interpersonal, Psychodrama, and Mindfulness.
